THE NINETIES – The new decade would prove interesting and very challenging. The ongoing task of maintenance continued. Major building repairs, chimney repairs, painting and roofing kept volunteers busy. The operating expenses increased while the contributions declined. Soon the Board was waging a battle to keep debt to a minimum. Some felt the camp should be self-supporting, while others felt that increasing camper fees could defeat the ministry. The board held fund raisers and studied ways of advancing the ministry. These mounting challenges made it difficult to find board members. The good news was God, who provided enough dedicated people for the camp to hold steady.
At the annual Meeting held, September 23, 1990, John and Dorothy Shumate were again recognized for their continued yard sales, which had raised over $1,900 the past year. The Trustees also recognized Bud Ross for 13 years of service and Pete Riojas for 30 years. |
