the 2020s

PictureExecutive Director Dr. Craig S. Oldenburg and Executive Assistant Mary Oldenburg (2023).
2020 - the year of COVID-19. There were weeks of wondering whether we could run summer camp at all. Finally, in mid-June the "OK" came and summer camp ran for 4 weeks beginning July 5.

The Camp Concordia board of directors continues with a 9-Stage Master Plan that is reviewed yearly. Discussions with architects resulted from the need for replacing the 1958 bathrooms/showers and the positive financial situation resulting from the increase in camper usage and an estate gift from Mike & Sandee Lovett, long time supporters, board members and users of Camp Concordia.

2022 - There was a national shortage of workers that affected camps across the USA. In 2021, Camp Concordia had 22 summer ministry staff. In 2022, a wonderful staff of 9 made themselves available - forcing a reduction in usage.

2023 - In July the Board of directors begins search for a new executive director and in December Pastor BJ Fouts excepted the Call to replace Dr. Craig Oldenburg.

March 11 - Pastor BJ Fouts begins as Executive Director

2024 - (March 27) Official retirement of Craig & Mary Oldenburg who directed CAMP CONCORDIA since April 1, 2014.

PROGRAM ADDITIONS
2021 - Ax Throwing was added to the Venture (grades 8-10) program.
2022 - smaller (130 lb max) kayaks were added to the Explorer (grades 1-3) and Journey (grades 3-5) programs
2022 - "The Climbing Tower" began to take shape.
2023 - Climbing Tower completed and used extensively during summer camp.

The original 1958 Fireplace was deemed unusable by the fire inspector in 2013; and through a major donation from a friend of camp of $25,000 it was rebuilt (complete new insides and top) and usable in the fall of 2023.
